A new active programme called the Daily Mile has secured a Sport England grant of £1.5m which will help every primary school in England to get kids more active everyday.
The concept works by getting children to take 15 minutes out of the day to run around the school ground every day, no matter the weather. Despite the programme name, kids are encouraged to go at their own pace and that it does not matter about the distance they jog or run.
Getting kids more active has been proven as positively improving concentration in class, eating and sleeping better at home as well as developing interpersonal social skills with classmates and teachers.
With this new £1.5m funding from Sport England, national and local coordinators can be recruited to get more schools involved in the scheme; a vision of getting all 20,000 UK primary schools to take part.
